Memorial Day Hike-Photos

Memorial Day Hike-American Fork

It was a beautiful day for a hike! I now know why they put limits to the group size for group hikes. It's annoying as hell to have to stop every 5 minutes and wait for the groups to go by because they aren't polite enough to let you go by.

Either way it was a great day on one of my favorite trails. Rocky is learning to enjoy the water a bit more. Not quite as much as Shika but he's not as shy about walking through the stream when he's hot.

Another cutie pie!

Oh how this little one would tempt me if I hadn't gotten Rocky already. I think most of them would. This one is at Midvale Animal Control Shelter and can be found on petfinder.

Cesar

This handsome fella is Cesar. You can find him on petfinder (http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/16505599) As is typical he was dumped due to humans having unrealistic expectations. A rescue saved him from Euthanasia.
His bio reads:
Cesar is a handsome, gentle German Shepherd Dog that is approximately 5 years old and weighs 68 pounds. Cesar was originally known as Downy by the person that surrendered to the South Utah Valley Animal Shelter. His owners gave him up because he peed in the house after being kept as an outdoor dog. When not adopted, he was rescued by CAWS as an alternative to euthanasia. He is very intelligent and easy to train. He is currently living with in a foster home that is experienced in training dogs where he is receiving potty training and obedience training through the positive reinforcement method. He gets along well with other dogs, is gentle with children and enjoys human affection. Cesar will be a wonderful addition to a special family. He is neutered and current on routine vaccines. If you would like to adopt Cesar, please complete the online application at caws.org/application.

Rocky before rescue

These are some pictures a friend of mine, Rocky's foster dad from Virginia, took of my boy Rocky when he was dumped at the shelter. This is why some people shouldn't be allowed to have animals. These pictures are very disturbing especially if you meet him now and know what a sweety his is.

And this is the result of compassion, a happy go lucky healthy guy.

Sunday hikes

I started hiking with a group called the Sunday hikers in January. They merged with another group a couple months ago. The new group was way too big the last time I hiked with them but they put a limit on the numbers so I went along this week. I think there were 15 or so of us and dogs.
Rocky did really well but I think the elevation and heat were getting to him. So once again I have yet to make it to the top of Grander peak. Last time I was the one that pooped out. Maybe next time we'll go earlier in the day when it's cooler. He is now pooped out snoozing on his favorite blanket.

Rocky waiting patiently for our friends to show up.

Shika wanting us to hurry up so she can walk with her friends.

The Rock.

The three amiga's.

Poop out break.

This is a beautiful Belgian Tervuren available through the Humane Society of Utah-definitely NOT my shelter of choice so I hope she finds a home soon! Her name is Bella. A friend of mine would love to adopt her but already has one Tervuren and an Akita. She's been visiting her and taking her out to the play yard when she can. Sounds like she needs a very active person, hiker maybe, to take her home. She was adopted and returned due to her activity level and the sedentary life of the adopters. People should really do some breed research before adopting.

Walking Meet Up

I created a meet up to try to find people to walk and hike with. So far I've had two people show up on the Sunday hikes/walks who decided they'd like to meet every other Sunday. One who is a regular has two gorgeous dogs. One is a long haired Akita named Bear. While I'm not keen on the look of Akita's I really love this guy. I think it's the color and long hair. The Belgian Tervuren is kin to the German Shepherd so who can go wrong there. If I were to go for a different breed this would be one.

Just a few fun photo's from Strut Your Mutt Salt Lake City. I only got photos of the starting line. Kinda hard to take a bunch when you have two dogs in hand and are walking in a large crowd.

Rescue Me

A friend suggested I start a blog for all my hiking photo's. I've thought about it for a while before the suggestion and figure there's enough people in the animal rescue world out there that if we share our stories maybe we can help get some great animals adopted.

I have started a hiking and walking meet to get people out with their dogs and to get myself and my dogs out with other people. I like to keep them well socialized. Expect lots of nature and dog photos!
